The automotive world is abuzz with the Genesis GMR-001, a Hypercar set to make its debut in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) by 2026. This cutting-edge machine from Hyundai's luxury sub-brand is poised to challenge established names in endurance racing. The car closely mirrors the concept shown last December but now offers a clearer view, including its vibrant livery. Designed under the leadership of Luc Donckerwolke, the vehicle integrates distinctive lighting features reminiscent of Genesis road cars. The design team also employed Genesis' new Magma performance brand color, creating a striking visual identity.

In an effort to ensure its presence is unmistakable, the GMR-001 showcases bold orange hues transitioning to deep red, complemented by Korean Hangeul lettering for 'Magma.' The factory team has been named Genesis Magma Racing. Technically, the GMR-001 adheres to the LMDh ruleset, which allows manufacturers to select one of four standard chassis options and customize bodywork and powertrain. This cost-effective approach contrasts with the more specialized LMH rules chosen by Ferrari, Toyota, Peugeot, and Aston Martin.

Constructed on a chassis provided by French manufacturer Oreca, the GMR-001 harnesses a hybrid system powered by a bespoke twin-turbo V8 engine. This unique powerplant combines two Hyundai 1.6-liter turbocharged WRC engines sharing a common crankshaft. Genesis has assembled a formidable driver lineup for its inaugural season, featuring three-time Le Mans winner André Lotterer and four-time Sebring victor Pipo Derani. Their skills will be pivotal as Genesis embarks on its WEC journey in 2026, followed by participation in the IMSA series in North America starting in 2027.

The Genesis GMR-001 marks a significant milestone in endurance racing. With its innovative design, strategic technical choices, and seasoned drivers, the car promises to deliver thrilling performances on the global stage. As Genesis steps into this competitive arena, it aims not only to establish itself as a formidable contender but also to redefine the standards of endurance racing through innovation and excellence.
