Born on April 28, 1932, in Meyersville, Bothe was the youngest of seven siblings. He married Elois Kochwelp in September 1955, with whom he had five children. His journey in the car dealership world began in earnest in 1970 when he co-founded a dealership, popularizing the phrase “There’s no deal like a Bothe deal!” Beyond his professional achievements, Bothe was an avid dancer, known for his lively presence on the dance floor well into his eighties.
